Minya Konka (7556m), the world's highest peak beyond the Himalaya,is also one of the most sacred mountains to Tibetan Buddhists. Situated in the Daxue Shan mountain range, between Dadu River and Yalong River, part of the Hengduan mountainous region, With the highest peak of 7,556 meters above sea level, enjoys the fame as "the King of Sichuan Mountains. As the concentrated area of high peaks in Hengduan Mountains, Minya Konka region owns more than 20 high peaks at altitude of more than 6000 meters.

Nochma Peak(5588m),as one of the subsidiary peaks of the Konka mountains, it was first climbed by Mr and Mrs Billy from Germany in 2001. Recently Nochma has become one of popular climbing peaks in china. It is regarded as the entry-level(PD-) to climb among all the peaks towering above 5500 meters in the China. It is not very difficult to climb across crevasses and slopes covered with ice and snow. It will take two days to summit from the base camp. The climber who attempts Nochma Peak should have prior trekking or camping experience at 4000m+ plateau and also has a sufficient physical condition.

Gongba Peak 5614m is next to Nochma Peak, which has a snow slope, a mixed ice and rock etc technical section of 200-300 meters. Its overall difficulty should be PD+, which is higher than Nochma Peak. The climbing route of Gongba Peak and Nochma Peak is 70% same, uses the same base camp. The same itinerary is convenient for climbers.

There are 2 camps on the traditional route. The route approaches the mountain from Zimei Village, trek to the base camp at 4200m, continue to C1 at 4850m. From camp1, you need crossing gravel slope, ice wall and snow slope, the last part to the summit is requested by roped-up group on the exciting ridge line.   

Gongba peak climbing route

The approach route of the Gongba Peak is the same as that of Nochma Peak, which diverges after 3 kilometers from the base camp, continues along the Konka Valley for 2 kilometers, and climbs and hikes to C1 (4800m); Starting from C1, it reaches the summit of 5614m after passing through gravel slopes, crevasse areas and snow slopes, approaching the summit with a strong sense of exposure.

The unilateral distance from Zimei Village to the summit of Nama Peak or Gongba Peak is about 20km.

Day 01: Arrive in Chengdu(500m), Check-in hotel

Check equipment,berifing and sign the agreement.

Day 02:Drive to ZiMei via Kangding   ZiMei Village (3200m) / Optional driving to Caoke town, trek to ZiMei Village at 8-16km

Day 03:Trek to Minya Konka Temple and base camp ( 4200m)

Minya Konka Temple is not only is it a famous temple of Tibetan Buddhism, it is also one of the best photograph places for Minya Konka. The whole trekking takes 6-7 hours for 11km to the base camp.

Day 04:Base camp to Camp 1

It treks 4-5 hours to Nochma   Peak Camp1(4850m) for 5km or Gongba Peak Camp1(4800m) for 7km. Pre-climbing training will be arranged in the afternoon.

Day 05:Summit day, back to ZiMei Village

Get up at 2:00 am and leave at 3:00. The summit takes 5-7 hours, and the descending to C1 is about 4 hours, you can enjoy the spectacular scenery of Minya Konka. Continue descending to BC in the afternoon. Finally back to ZiMei village.

Day 06:Driving to Kangding / optional   back to Caoke town (1500m)

You can enjoy celebration dinner in Kanding or Caoke town.

Day 07:Drive back to Chengdu (500m).

Normally will arrive in Chengdu around the afternoon 4:00pm, please book the flight after 18:00pm or next day.

1. Risk Reminder

Nochma Peak(5588m) or Gongba Peak is considered to be one of the most popular, easily of ascending and hence most frequented summits among 5,000m peaks in China, but two climbers fell their death   due to AMS in 2018. Every mountaineer who has decided to participate in an expedition to Nochma Peak must realize that an ascent of this mountain is an adventure activity and so it poses certain health and life risks.

She/he takes full personal responsibility for the decision to participate in this expedition, any act or failure to act during it and all the possible consequences of this decision.

2 Cancellations and Transfers

Expeditions will usually only take place if a minimum of 4 people join the Expedition.Should this minimum not be reached, we may, in our absolute discretion, cancel the Expedition. If we elect to cancel the Expedition as your exclusive remedy, you may choose to be: refunded in full; or transferred to another of our expeditions ;or transferred to another operator’s expedition, whereupon the Price shall be adjusted by us to reflect the new expedition’s advertised price.

The member should have prior 4000m+ mountain level trekking experience, and has a sufficient physical condition. Attempting Gongba peak should have prior 5000m+ technical peak climbing experience.
